Welcome to Speed Walk Toronto!
I am super excited to share with you my passion for Speed Walking as a true form of exercise.

Why Speed Walking?
Those of you who have done speed or power walking know the benefits. Those who are new to the sport I can guarantee you will find it as challenging as any fitness class. Speedwalking engages the whole body but WITHOUT the “impact” on your joints that running causes. Once you learn some techniques involved with speedwalking you can continue with this well into your 80’s without injury to your joints.
There is a specific technique to speed walking both in the stride and use of your arms to control speed. The more you work your arms, the faster your feet will go. We will work on taking shorter strides, building stamina and adding steps to our workouts.
My program will accommodate all levels of fitness with the goal to give guidance and support to everyone so that they can reach their full potential. Whether you are a veteran of speed walking or a beginner, my classes will guarantee to keep you challenged.
About Me
I have always strived to stay healthy by exercising and was thrilled over 5 years ago to get hooked on speewalking/powerwalking. This is a fantastic low impact cardio sport to get you in shape and to keep you in shape.
I am passionate about healthy eating and exercise and recently became certified as a CanFitPro Personal Trainer Specialist. My moto is “eat real and get walking”.
My career has spanned from a Hotel Assistant Manager to presently Teaching Kindergarten as an Early Childhood Educator. Both careers have involved meeting adults and children from all walks of life who have and continue to teach me new things. I believe we are never too old to learn something new.
I have completed many 8km, 10km and 1/2 marathon races as a “Speed Walker” in Canada, the U.S. and Iceland.
I’m very excited to coach speed walking, to motivate others to get fit, to build speed and to support everyone reaching their goals.
90% of North Americans spend their awake hours indoors. Get out and walk!

Clothing & Safety
Comfortable clothing and running shoes (yes even in the snow we wear running shoes). If the weather outside is icy and particularly snowy a pair of Yaktraks will help reduce the risk slipping and injuries, providing great stability for outdoor walking.
Usually a good guideline is to wear one layer less than you would for heading to the grocery store – this is after all a workout and you will get your heart rate going. Please remember for safety in the darker months of classes to wear reflective clothing and lights.
Safety is my number 1 concern. If conditions do not allow for a full 60 or 90 minute class it will be shorted. If extreme weather conditions are such that participant safety is a concern the class will be cancelled completely in which case I will notify you in advance.
Please email me with any questions.

If you are interested in a great outdoor cardio workout then Charlotte will help you become a stronger walker while perfecting your form. She will teach you the fundamentals of power walking, and will also include strengthening exercises, speed work, interval and hill training. Her classes are always fun and varied and true friendships are formed with the other participants. Congratulations Charlotte on your new venture, you are a great coach and I enjoy walking with you! - Ann M., Toronto
Charlotte is passionate about walking. You see this from her enthusiastic participation in power walking classes, focused efforts in races and encouragements to friends to take up walking as an exercise form. She has taken this interest further by becoming a certified fitness coach and now by launching SpeedWalkToronto. Charlotte is a fantastic and dedicated coach. She is engaging and you always feel great at the end of her class. Kudos Charlotte on your new venture. - Ed G., Scarborough
